The Horten brothers, who had been interested in gliders and flying wings since early childhood, continued to develop flying wings under Dr. Lippisch, the designer of the Me 163. The prototype was iterated several times and officially adopted as the “Ho 229”. The Ho 229, which the German Air Force expected to be highly efficient, was planned in several variants, including a two-seater, but they were not used in actual combat.
The flying wing with this unique shape had no vertical stabilizer, which structurally reflected radar waves, and carbon powder was used for the paint job, so it was considered very inconspicuous.
